Sir Roger Ascham – Instructed Queen Elizabeth I in the art of archery – and is often referred to as the Grandfather of Archery – Toxophilus is a book about longbow archery written by him, and first published in London in 1545. Dedicated to King Henry VIII, it is the first book on archery written in English.
